ATTENTION:  I am gathering data on the WW2 crew and have compiled a list on the WW2 Crew List page.  This lists the name, rate and patrols sailed.  I'm also wanting to add photos.  Visit the Crew List page for examples, scroll down and click on a name that is a hyperlink.  This will bring up a photo of that crew member.  I'm missing a lot of information.  Please email me anything you have at: ussbatfish@yahoo.com.  Thanks in advance for your help!

Posting Announcement

Rick Dennis announces 3 new official positions at the museum:

Mark Allen
Mark has volunteered for the position of historian for the USS Batfish. Mark is a member of the Society for Military History, the United States Naval Institute, and the AASLH and is currently pursuing a Master's Degree in Military History with a World War 2 emphasis. He maintains the Batfish Website and is the Volunteer Coordinator and will report directly to Rick regarding volunteer activities. Mark's in-depth knowledge of the boat and her history will be a great asset for everyone to use.
Dennis Gilbert
Dennis has been made an Assistant Curator for the museum.  Dennis is a former crew member of the USS Batfish and has been a wealth of information.  He has been instrumental in getting many of the new artifacts for the boat including the 3 new torpedo that were delivered over the last 2 years.  He is also working with the Beaumont, TX facility to get us additional artifacts like ships clocks line guns and the like.
Bradley Wynn
Bradley has stepped up and volunteered for the position of PR Director out of his home base in Oklahoma City . You all know Bradley from Matt Jenkins movie the Last Dive. Bradley has experience in rustling up interest for venues like ours. I look forward to working with him.

Upcoming Events

  • Batfish Bow Dive Planes rigged out after 50+ years.  Mark and Ed were able to rig out the forward dive planes on July 10th.  For pictures, please click HERE.
  • Deck Replacement:  The deck work continues at a steady pace. We have ~100% of the old deck removed. The starboard side looking better as the new deck is installed. This is a very labor intensive project. We need volunteers to come out and help with the replacement of the deck. Contact Rick at the museum or shoot Mark an email at ussbatfish@yahoo.com for more info.  Next coordinated work day is Saturday, September 18, 2010 from 8 AM to ??? You can check out a graphical deck replacement status HERE.  Follow our status at SubmarineMuseums.org
  • USS Oklahoma BB-37 Mast: Thank you Judy Moody for all your hard work you have done on this already. The Mast is at the park and there will be an unveiling and welcoming on July 10th at 10:00 AM.  This is the official unveling and welcoming of the USS Oklahoma Mast. Survivors of the Pearl Harbor Bombing will be present as we unveil the 45 foot mast section and kick off a foundation to support the USS Oklahoma Exhibit.
  • Painting the Boat: Rick has been working very hard to get the paint issue underhand. The first step is to test the lead content of the paint on the boat. This testing will help determine the extent of lead removal that we will have to deal with. Thank you Batfish Foundation for stepping up and helping us out with the testing. This is a major expense but it will definitely determine what we are talking about. We are also looking at potential fund raisers for painting the boat. Look for more information on this later.
