My name is Mark Allen and I
created and host the USS Batfish SS310 website. It's been around
since 1998 and been through many changes and revisions. It's meant to be
a place where you can learn a bit about the submarine and her crew. I'm
slowly getting the place caught up from a 5 year hiatus (my
apologies...long story).
I volunteered at the War Memorial Park starting in 1998 and continued
until 2016 when I stepped away. In that time, I served many roles such
as volunteer coordinator, webmaster, and park historian. I created tour
booklets, informational pamphlets, and even wrote the small book "Leader
of the Pack" to give guests a bit of history about the sub. Through
these efforts I was awarded the 2011 HNSA Ship Preservation Award, but
it was really an award for my friends who "served" with me on the RELIEF
CREW.
Besides Leader of the Pack, I have written two other
books: Midway Submerged (submarine action at the Battle of
Midway), and I stepped over to the dark side and wrote about a regiment
during a battle in the Civil War...The 2nd U.S. Sharpshooters at
Gettysburg: Like a Perfect Hornet's Nest. My next book is taking
me back to the Pacific and submarines, plus I have in the works several
journal articles on Pacific submarine actions.
I'm recently retired so I plan to get this site fully updated and focus
on my new social media project: PACIFIC CONFLICT. Find us on Facebook
and LinkedIn. Links are on the Main Page of this website.
Please contact me at
ussbatfish@yahoo.com for anything related to the submarine,
submarine's history, or this website. At this time, I am not affiliated
with the park and cannot answer any questions and usually just forward
the emails the park curator/manager (see below).
If you have any questions concerning the current condition of the
Batfish or about the War Memorial Park, please contact James Erb, Park
Curator/Manager at
info@warmemorialpark.org or call him at 918-682-6294. |
